Akureyri (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈaːkʏrˌeiːrɪ], locally [ˈaːkʰʏrˌeiːrɪ] ) is a town in northern Iceland, the country's fifth most populous municipality (under the official name of Akureyrarbær [-ˌeiːrarˌpaiːr̥], 'town of Akureyri') and the largest outside the Capital Region. The municipality includes the town's neighbourhood at the head of Eyjafjörður and two farther islands: Hrísey at the mouth of Eyjafjörður and Grímsey off the coast.

Gásir (Icelandic pronunciation: [ˈkauːsɪr̥]) or Gásakaupstaður [ˈkauːsaˌkʰœypˌstaːðʏr̥] was a medieval trading post situated 11 kilometres (6. 8 mi) north of Akureyri on the coast of Eyjafjörður, in Northern Iceland.

The Icelandic Aviation Museum (Icelandic: Flugsafn Íslands [ˈflʏɣˌsapn ˈistlan(t)s]) covers the history of aviation in Iceland. It is housed at Akureyri Airport and was formally opened on 24 June 2000.

The Akureyri Botanical Garden (Icelandic: Lystigarður Akureyrar [ˈlɪstiˌkarðʏr ˈaːkʏrˌeiːrar̥], regionally also [-ˈaːkʰʏr-]) is a unique and significant botanical garden located in the southern part of Akureyri, a city in Northern Iceland. Situated on the west side of the inland end of the fjord Eyjafjörður, at an elevation of about 45 metres, the garden is one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world, just 85 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle.
